Obituary for Cathy Jean Egan (Stopiak)

Cathy Jean Stopiak Egan, 68, of Bridgeport, passed away on December 8, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 8, 1951, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Andrew J. Stopiak and Betty J. Davis Stopiak Compton.
She is survived by her loving son, Shaun Egan of Spartanburg, SC, her sister, Andrea (Stopiak) Alfred of Clarksburg, her father, Otha Compton, Jr. of Bridgeport, her niece, Stephanie (Alfred) Iaquinta of Bridgeport, her ex-husband and friend, Frank Egan of Canton, Ohio, her step-brother, Gene Compton and step-sister, Judy (Joe) Way, both of Bridgeport. Also surviving are her aunt, Jean Moccia of Bridgeport, her beloved Shitzu, Misha, cousins Vic Anthony (Paige) Moccia of Bridgeport, Brenda (Yazvac) Henderson and Johnny (Martha) Stopiak of Clarksburg, her sisters-in-law, Donna (Egan) Weiss, Janice and Pat Egan and Julie King; nieces and nephews, Sandra Reo, Denise Scassa and Joseph Weiss, all of Ohio, Shaun’s brother, Frankie Egan of Erie, Pennsylvania, and many more nieces and nephews.
Cathy was preceded in death by her uncles, Carl H. Davis and Victor Moccia.
Cathy was a graduate of the Class of 1968 of Bridgeport High School and attended West Virginia University. She retired from the accounting department of Dominion Hope after many years of service. She was a member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church.
Her hobbies included WVU sports, collecting antiques, gardening, photography and fashion. She also enjoyed keeping in touch with family and friends over long phone conversations. Cathy had a giving heart, a special charm and a witty personality. She will be missed by so many.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Thursday from 3 – 7 p.m. Cathy will lie in state at Bridgeport United Methodist Church on Friday, December 13, 2019, from 10 a.m. – 10:45 a.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Ken Ramsey presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
