Obituary for Dorsey B. McEldowney

Dorsey B. McEldowney, 91, of Bridgeport, passed away Wednesday morning, December 18, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Bridgeport on October 25, 1928, a son of the late Harry L. and Daisy May (Kisner) McEldowney.

On July 7, 1948, he married Mae (Wigal) McEldowney, who preceded him in death on June 16, 2010, after 61 years of marriage.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Jean Cureton, Nutter Fort; two sons, Harry McEldowney and his wife Deborah, Bridgeport; and Lynn McEldowney, Nutter Fort; five grandchildren, Shelly Bunnell and her husband Darren, Clarksburg; Stacy Spence and her husband Luther Ray, GA; Sonya Wilmoth, Clarksburg; Shane McEldowney and his companion Jessica Medina, Bridgeport; and Clay McEldowney, Bridgeport; and 10 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William Cureton; a grandson, Alex Heath McEldowney; grandson-in-law, James Tennant; and 6 brothers, Dewey, Claude D, James H, Roy William, Cecil Morris and Denzil Jess McEldowney; 2 sisters, Vada May Tucker and Ruth Moore Fleming. Dorsey was the last surviving member of his family.

Dorsey was an active member of the Middleville Baptist Church. He was a self-employed plaster contractor with over 40 plus years of service, retiring in 1990. He considered his work his artistry. After he retired, he and Mae were best friends and went everywhere together, they especially enjoyed country music. He was an avid fisherman and he was also a hard worker who provided for his family. He was a great husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by his family and friends.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Friday from 2-8 pm, where services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019, with Pastor Paul Boyles presiding. Interment will follow in Middleville Baptist Church Cemetery.
