Obituary for Eleanor Lorraine Camp

Eleanor Lorraine Camp, 101, of Bridgeport died after a long stay at Meadowview Manor Nursing Home on Saturday, February 15, 2020. She was born on December 1, 1918 in Mannington, WV the oldest child out of 10 to George Hildreth and Dessie Eddy Hildreth.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Camp who passed away in 1985 at the age of 73.
She is survived by her son (George) Steve Camp and his wife Deborah of Bridgeport; grandson, Steven Camp of Bridgeport; granddaughters, Crystal Camp, Danielle Padfield, Bridgeport; great grandchildren, D’Andre Hollaway, Cody Camp, Makayla Camp, Zoey Blevins, of Bridgeport, Destinee Croston, Philippi, and Abagail McMaines and father Michael McMaines of Baltimore, MD; one great-great grandson, Liam Camp; brothers, Wayne Hildreth and his wife Mary of VA and Bayard Hildreth of Badaxe, MI.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, George and Maddie Camp; brothers and sisters, (George) Elden Hildreth and his wife Virginia, Chester Hildreth, (Eldora) Malain Fowler and her husband Dallas, Zale Hildreth and his wife Marie, Kessel Hildreth, Byron Hildreth and his wife Rethia, Zennith Hildreth and his wife Lorretta; and one granddaughter, Kathleen Denise McMaines (nee) Camp.
Eleanor was a member of Bridgeport Methodist Church and the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked at Friend’s Restaurant and the Bridgeport Handy Shop before opening a grocery store with her husband Walter and Charlie and Jennetta Henderson, called C & H Market, which served Bridgeport, Clarksburg, Rosemont and Maple Lake with to the door deliver and frozen and cold food put away for you. They were open from 1954-1972. She was lovingly referred to as Team Grandma for all the grandchildren’s ball games, of which she never missed. She worked the Little League Concession Stand during her grandchildren’s Little League Games. Friends and Family loved when she made extras of her chicken noodles, banana bread, fried chicken, and would bring turkey bone to her to get even a quart of her turkey soup. She enjoyed gardening and cutting her own grass up to age 78. She loved to watch the birds, squirrels and deer in her yard.
Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Lang presiding. Interment will be in Bridgeport Cemetery
