Obituary for Sharon Sue Marteny
Sharon S. (Gowers) Marteny, 74, of W. Veterans Memorial Hwy, Bridgeport, passed away Tuesday evening, January 12, 2021, in Salem. She was born in Mount Clare on December 21, 1946, a daughter of the late Ira Gowers and Nona Starcher Gowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Roger Neil Marteny, who passed away on November 18, 2020
Also surviving are her son, Roger N. Marteny, Jr. and his wife Laura, Olmsted Falls, OH; and her daughter Lisa L. Marteny and her partner Melody Carter, of Cross Lanes, WV; three grandsons, Jacob Marteny, Houston, TX; Ian Marteny, Broadview, OH; and Gage N. Carter-Marteny, Cross Lanes, WV; sister, Lois Wamsley of Buckhannon; brother-in-law Fred Flint of Quiet Dell; sister-in-law, Millie Gowers of Copperas Cove, TX.
In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Orlan, David, James and Robert Gowers; sisters, Juanita Swisher and Loretta JoAnn Flint; sister-in-law, Christa Gowers; brothers-in-law, David Wamsley and Junior Swisher.
Sharon was a graduate of Lost Creek High School, Class of 1965. She was employed with the FBI having been retired for the last 10 years. She was a member of Congregational Missionary Church and a lifetime member of Beech Mountain Sportsman’s Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Congregational Missionary Church, 8095 Hazelwood Avenue, Stonewood, WV 26301.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 5 – 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, with Pastor Sherman Goodwin presiding. Interment will follow in WV National Cemetery.
