Obituary for Martha "Patsy" Powell (Workman)

Martha Jane “Patsy” Powell, 74, of Brushy Fork Road, Bridgeport, passed away Friday morning, October 22, 2021, in the United Hospital Center. She was born in Clarksburg on February 27, 1947, a daughter of the late Shelton and Carrow (Hill) Workman.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jess W. Powell, Jr., on October 31, 2017.
She is survived by her beloved son Michael J. Powell and his wife Brittany of Parkersburg; and daughter-in-law Melissa Powell of Bridgeport; four beloved grandchildren, Samantha (Broc) Gregg, Jess W. Powell, IV, and his wife Taylor, Kristin Jane (John) Fox, and Katie Lynn Powell; two step-children, Krystine Rossi and her husband Jeremy; and David Bomer; six great-grandchildren, Jess Powell, V, Addisyn Powell, Gabriel Powell, Landon Powell; Kayan Gregg and Kylar Gregg; and two special step-great-grandchildren, Tucker and Briar Rossi of Bridgeport. She is also survived by two sisters, Ginny Olejnik of Seal Beach, CA; and Becky Shaver and her husband Terry of Ruther Glen, VA; two brothers, Joe Workman and his wife Joy; and Mark Workman and his companion Jenny Phillips, all of Good Hope; her brother-in-law, Don Moran of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also welcomed to Heaven by her Heavenly Father and earthly son, Jess W. Powell, III, who was tragically killed in an auto accident on Friday January the 13th, 2006; and her sister, Ann Moran.
Patsy graduated from Unidis High School, where she raised prize-winning Ayrshire cows as a member of 4-H. She attended Glenville State College. She worked as a Transcriptionist at United Hospital Center and had an at-home transcription business working with many doctors, including Dr. Douglas. She was a master chef in the kitchen and no one ever left the table hungry. She participated in the Brushy Fork Senior Center, serving as Treasurer. She is missed by her constant companion of 15 years, Paco.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Monday from 4-8p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, with Pastor Robert Marino presiding. Interment will follow in Trinity Cemetery.
