Obituary for Carlos Barrett "Charlie" Cepeda

Carlos “Charlie” Barrett Cepeda, 89, of Mesa Drive, Bridgeport, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at United Hospital Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 16, 1932, in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila, Mexico, a son of late Jorge F. Barrett and Rosaura Cepeda de Barrett.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years Evelyn Polk Gowdy.
He is survived by five children, Carlos A. Barrett and his wife Peggy Lynn of Benbrook, Texas; Mary Polk "Polly" Barrett Clutter of Bridgeport and Donald Clutter of Clarksburg; Michael E. Barrett of Saylorsburg, Pa.; Leslie "Lolly" Barrett of Vinton, Va.; and Robert A. Barrett of Bridgeport. He also is survived by 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren with one on the way; and sisters, Maria Enriqueta Barrett Calleja and Rosa Maria Barrett Coleman of Texas.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers Jorge F. Barrett Cepeda and Abel E. Barrett Cepeda; and sisters Maria del Roble Barrett Munoz and Elizabeth Barrett.
Charlie attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX and worked at Union Carbide / UCAR in Monterrey, Mexico and Anmoore, WV as an Engineer. He had a lifelong passion for hunting and the outdoors. He also coached youth baseball and football for all his sons as well as Pop Warner Football and Little League baseball in Bridgeport. He was devoted to his faith and family and greatly interested in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Charlie’s family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clarksburg at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, with the Fr. Casey Mahone as Celebrant.
