Obituary for Dottie Elaine Andre (Marsh)

Dottie Elaine Marsh Andre, 83, of Bridgeport, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March, 29, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Dottie was born on February 14, 1940 to the late Beatrice (Hershman) Marsh and Aubrey Marsh. She was born with a caring soul and a deep love for animals. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Andre, Jr. She is survived by two children, son Robert J. Andre, III and his wife Suzanne of Bridgeport; daughter Michelle Andre Krieger, her husband Bill and two beautiful granddaughters Mallary and Maggie of Glen Burnie, MD.

Dottie graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1958 and went on to receive a degree in home economics
at Fairmont State University. She started her first job at Hope Gas as a home economist doing cooking demonstrations and classes that marketed the benefits of cooking with natural gas. Following her job with Hope Gas, Dottie was hired by A. James Manchin to serve as a county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration. After the birth of her first child, Dottie realized she had a passion for teaching and helping others, so she decided to become a substitute teacher in Harrison County.

In the summer of 1983 Dottie and her husband Bob moved to Canaan Valley where they opened a restaurant called Peter Christians and developed the Blackwater Center shopping center in the heart of the Valley. After selling the restaurant, Dottie went on to obtain her teaching certification from Salem College and became a full-time teacher for the WV Department of Corrections at the Davis Center (now known as the Kenneth Rubenstein Juvenile Center) in Davis WV. She loved working with her students and treated every one of them as her own, always hoping she made a positive impact in the lives of young men who found themselves incarcerated.

Dottie always enjoyed being actively involved in charity work and giving back. She was a member and past president of The Clarksburg League for Service, Canaan Valley Women's Club, President of the Timberline Homeowners Association, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dottie would organize donations and support charities to benefit her community.

All her life, Dottie loved animals and could never turn away a stray. The family requests that donations be made to the Harrison County Humane Society in her memory at http://www.hshcwv.org. Please consider adoption for your next cat or dog.
