Obituary for Mary Elaine Hamrick (Tate)

Mary Elaine Tate Hamrick, 80, of Glenwood Hill, Clarksburg, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 15, 2014, in the United Hospital Center.  She was born in Clarksburg on April 3, 1934, a daughter of the late Meryl Virginia Blaney Tate and George Bailey Tate.

Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wilbert E. Hamrick, whom she married on December 23, 1955.

She is also survived by two children, Jeffrey E. Hamrick and his wife Katrina of Clarksburg and Judith E. Chipps and her husband Sid of Laurel Valley; four grandchildren, Kayla Feiereisen and her husband Chris of Shinnston, Adam Hamrick and his wife Amy of Clarksburg, Evan Helmick of Shinnston and Katelyn Hamrick of Clarksburg; four great-grandchildren, Trey, Eli, Preston and Dylan; two sisters Pauline Kenney of Clarksburg and Martha Willard of Tehachapi, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother Eugene “Bud” Tate and a sister, Geraldine “ Geri” Shaughnessy.

Mary graduated from Victory High School, Class of 1953. She worked at Hazel Atlas Glass Factory and was a teacher’s aide in the Harrison County School System. She attended the Calvary United Methodist Church where she was a member of the choir.

Mary was a loving mother and grandmother who greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her hobbies included building puzzles and playing Canasta and she loved cooking and canning food for her family.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from  2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, with Pastor Brian Plum presiding.  Interment will follow in Greenlawn Masonic Cemetery.
