Wetzel Norr Hamrick, 87, of Good Hope, entered into God’s loving hands on Saturday afternoon, November 29, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Bergoo, Webster County, on June 18, 1927, a son of the late Adam L. and Ada C. Hamrick.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dortha “Betty” Hamrick, whom he married on April 25, 1950.

He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Justin Pierce, CJ Kesling, Jeremy, Mackenzie and Jacob Baddley, Donovon Wetzel Garrett, Miguel, Leigha, Zoe, and Andrew Linger, and Caden, Colton, Caleb and Corben Hall. Three brothers, Wilson Hamrick and his wife Joyce, of OH; Wilbert Hamrick, Clarksburg; and Woody Hamrick and his wife Aritha, Clarksburg; three sisters, Flora Wright, of Virginia; Fay Gerrard and her husband Wayne, Clarksburg; Frances Allen, Clarksburg; and Fonda Wyatt, Webster Springs; and many nieces and nephews complete his family.

Wetzel was a proud veteran of the US Army, serving from 1945 – 1951 during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. His fondest memory of one position he held was assistant cook, and when he was asked to make syrup for pancakes he mistakenly used salt. The story brought him many years of laughter.
Wetzel had worked at Anchor Hocking in the decorating department, retiring in 1987 after 37 ½ years of service. He was a Protestant by faith and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and attended West Milford United Methodist Church. He also attended several other local churches when the doors were open. He was an avid gardener, hunter and bee keeper, but most of all he was a loving family man.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 2 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, with Pastor Timothy Kelley, Pastor Brian Plum, and Pastor Benjamin Hall presiding. Interment will follow in Good Hope Masonic Cemetery.
