Obituary for Alice Stead Barker (Butcher)

Alice Butcher Stead Barker, 92, of Clarksburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 11, 2017. She was born in Sand Fork, Gilmer County, on February 27, 1925, a daughter of the late William Albert and Eva Dell (Rogers) Butcher.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Lee Stead and George L. Barker.
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene Stead, Clarksburg; two sisters, her twin Alliedine Myers, Bridgeport; and Louise Lauth and her husband Charles, Kinsman, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, John and Thomas Butcher; and a half-brother, Leroy Chips.
Alice had formerly worked at Empire Laundry and the UHC snack bar. She was a member of Stealey Assembly of God, and was active in many of the various activities of the church. She enjoyed sitting on her porch, and especially enjoyed taking care of Olivia and Abigail Hinton when they were younger.
The family would like to thank the Amedysis Hospice staff for the wonderful care provided to Alice.

Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, from 4 – 8 p.m. on Friday, where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, with Pastor Mark Greaver presiding. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
