Obituary for Tommy Orville Paynter

Tommy O. Paynter, 78, of Clarksburg, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 22, 2014. He was born in Clarksburg on November 5, 1936, a son of the late Orville and Monnie Hogue Paynter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Julianne Edge Paynter.
Also surviving are a son, Steve Paynter and his wife Opal, Wimauma, FL; two daughters, Rebecca Bearden and her husband Jerry, Aiken, SC; and Patricia Grindstaff and her husband Kevin, Irmo, SC; 8 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Beverly Flanagan, White House, TN; Esther Riddle, Mt. Clare; and Sue Elbright, Buckeye, AZ; and many nieces and nephews complete his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy J. Sanders.
Tom was a devoted member of Central Church of Christ, Clarksburg, where he was an active member for 32 years. He had worked for Consolidated Natural Gas Company, retiring after 40 years of service. He had also served in the Army National Guard from 1962 – 1966.
Tom also served on the Board of Directors of Pleasant Acres Christian Haven in Fairmont and the Hope Federal Credit Union in Clarksburg for many years.
His hobbies included hunting, woodworking, and spending time with family and friends. He was a wonderful craftsman and neighbor who used his many talents to serve the Lord, his family, and his community. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and Christian example.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tom’s memory can be made to Pleasant Acres Christian Acres, 41 Pleasant Acre Drive, Fairmont, WV 26554; or to a charity of one’s choice.
Friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport, on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m., where services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, with Keith Bramel presiding. Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
