Some of my earliest memories of Aunt Katie was when they still lived off of L'Enfant Square. Along with Grandma, Uncles Jimmy and Albert, and Aunt Esther and Aunt Katie all lived in the house. Most of the time, when we visited, we were down in the lowest level of the building. But often, Aunt Katie was upstairs in ... I guess you would call it a parlor. She and Howard were frequently up in that room chatting and laughing, but if he wasn't there I can remember going out on the balcony that was just off of that area. It overlooked L'Enfant Square and she would very patiently sit with me for a long time playing "I spy...something green, or whatever." One of the things that was so great about Aunt Katie is that she always made time to talk/play with all of her neices and nephews...not that the others didn't, but I think Aunt Katie spent more time with the kids than with the adults.
